India Extends Commissioning Deadline for Select Solar Power Projects Till December 2025

In a significant move to support the solar energy sector, the Government of India has approved an extension for the commissioning of select solar power projects, allowing developers time until December 2025 to complete their installations. This decision comes amid ongoing challenges faced by developers due to supply chain delays, logistical issues, and evolving policy dynamics.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) announced that this extension will apply specifically to projects where commissioning timelines were impacted by external and uncontrollable factors, such as global module shortages, delayed clearances, or land acquisition hurdles.
A Boost for Developers and Clean Energy Targets
Industry stakeholders have welcomed this extension, viewing it as a relief that will help maintain momentum toward India’s renewable energy goals. The move is especially critical for developers under government schemes like:
Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) Scheme
Solar Park Projects under SECI and NTPC
PM-KUSUM and rooftop solar programs
Encouraging Private Sector Participation
This decision is also expected to encourage greater private sector investment by reducing the risk of project delays and penalties. With India targeting 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030, supportive policy measures like this are crucial for sustaining long-term sectoral growth.
