Delhi Government Boosts Rooftop Solar Subsidy: ₹10,000 Per kW Now Available for Households

Delhi Increases Rooftop Solar Subsidy to ₹10,000 Per kW, Simplifies Installation with RESCO Model
New Delhi, July 18, 2025 — In a major push for clean energy adoption, the Delhi Government has significantly revised its rooftop solar subsidy policy, effective from July 10, 2025. Households across the capital can now avail a generous subsidy of ₹10,000 per kilowatt (kW), up to a maximum of ₹30,000 per household. This move is expected to drive rapid growth in solar adoption among Delhi’s residential consumers.
In addition to individual households, Group Housing Societies (GHS) and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) are now eligible for ₹2,000 per kW subsidy for solar panels installed on common facilities like water pumps, stairwell lighting, and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
Key Highlights of the Revised Delhi Rooftop Solar Policy:
₹10,000 per kW subsidy for residential consumers (up to ₹30,000 cap).
₹2,000 per kW subsidy for GHS/RWAs for common facility solar installations.
Applicable only for installations done after July 10, 2025.
New RESCO (Renewable Energy Service Company) model allows solar adoption without upfront investment.
Monthly payments adjusted directly through the electricity bill.
What is RESCO Model?
Under the RESCO model, solar companies install rooftop solar systems at no upfront cost to the consumer. The cost is recovered via a fixed tariff, which is billed along with the consumer’s electricity bill. The biggest advantage? Consumers save on electricity bills from Day 1 without investing a single rupee upfront.
This system is ideal for households and RWAs that want to adopt solar but lack the capital for upfront investment.
Delhi’s Commitment to Green Energy
This initiative is part of Delhi’s larger strategy to transition towards sustainable and renewable energy, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and curb urban pollution. With this policy, the Delhi Government aims to make solar power accessible and affordable to every household and housing society.
According to experts, the increased subsidies and simplified RESCO implementation will make rooftop solar systems more attractive and hassle-free for middle-class and lower-income families.
Why This Matters for Consumers
✅ Big Savings: Solar electricity is cheaper than grid electricity. With subsidies, the payback time is now shorter than ever.
✅ Zero Upfront Cost: Thanks to the RESCO model, consumers no longer need to invest lakhs for solar panels.
✅ Support for EVs: RWAs can now set up solar-powered EV charging stations with financial aid.
✅ Environment Friendly: Reduce your carbon footprint while saving money.
How to Apply
Consumers interested in installing rooftop solar systems under the new subsidy scheme can visit the Delhi Solar Portal or contact approved solar vendors listed under the Delhi Government’s scheme.
For RWAs and housing societies, application and approval must be done through a certified RESCO provider, with detailed documentation of the common facility usage.
GreenioMart Viewpoint:
As India moves toward achieving its green energy goals, policies like these are critical in accelerating rooftop solar adoption. Delhi’s revised solar subsidy model is one of the most attractive in India and sets a strong example for other states.
